The Inc. 5000 List
Friday, August 05 2011 - inc-5000-list, fast-growth, fast-companies
In 2007, the Inc. 500 became the Inc. 5000. A broader field of businesses introduced new insights and lots of new entrants. The list presents America's fastest growing private companies. The growth rate of each featured company is based on revenues for the three years prior to the year of the ranking.
The Inc. 5000 winner for 2010 was Ambit Energy, a Dallas, Texas firm with a 3-year growth rate of 20,369%. Their 2009 revenue was $325 million. "Ambit Energy was founded in response to Texas' energy deregulation, with a goal to provide better customer service and customer retention. Texas is the largest electricity market in the United States, and the 11th largest worldwide market, falling between Great Britain and Spain in terms of annual consumption."
Who's growing FAST in the Bluegrass and across the Ohio River in Southern Indiana? (For outsiders, we call this "Kentuckiana.") Below are the Louisville, Ky., companies on the Inc. 5000 list in 2010, and in the next box, some nearby winners.

The second fastest-growing, ranked #55, is CSS Distribution Group, Louisville Ky.
"CSS Distribution Group is a packing and shipping outsourcer that provides pallets, packaging equipment, and packaging services, bridging the gap between its customers' centralized purchasing teams and their geographically dispersed plants."
Looks like the highest-ranking in this area is #39 on the list, the Appliance Zone, Corydon, Indiana.
"Founder and CEO Jim Allen started Appliance Zone from his Indiana home in 2006 with his wife and kids as a plan to get him out of the appliance repair business within two years. He was out in six months, and the company is now one of the largest online suppliers of appliance parts and accessories."
